In August 2025, North Marine was engaged by Marine Structures to support cargo transport, pile removal, and pontoon installation at Bloomfield River, Far North Queensland.

Scope of Work

The project required a combination of marine logistics and specialised dive operations. All cargo was first delivered to and stored at North Wharf in Cairns before mobilisation, with a total of 69 tonnes of piles, pontoon components, ballast, surrounds, and miscellaneous hardware transported on the WBIV 20-metre dumb barge, towed by the tug Pacific Ranger to Bloomfield. Once onsite, WBIV remained in position for three weeks to support project operations, secured with a single-point tow configuration using 48mm tiger rope and bridle.

In addition to cargo movements, North Marine provided specialised dive support for the removal of two partially submerged piles within Bloomfield River. These operations were carried out by an ADAS-certified commercial dive team working from dive vessel Sea Horse within a crocodile cage, with the landing craft Reef Safari supporting shallow-water access and equipment transport.

North Marine Discriminators:

  1. Proven ability to mobilise heavy and oversized cargo (over 78 tonnes including ballast) safely into a restricted tidal river system.

  2. Flexible logistics planning, adapting cargo load-outs and towage schedules around tidal windows.

  3. Integrated fleet deployment: tug Pacific Ranger, dumb barge WBIV, landing craft Reef Safari, and dive vessel Sea Horse.

  4. Certified ADAS dive team experienced in high-risk environments (including crocodile net set-up and croc cages).

  5. Cost-effective solutions offered by combining pontoon and project cargo into barge load-outs, reducing towage costs.
