North Marine was engaged by Maritime Safety Queensland to support its War on Wrecks (WoW) initiative, focusing on the lawful removal, disposal, and destruction of derelict Queensland Regulated Ships (QRS) across the Cairns region. The project involves a series of complex salvage operations at multiple remote and environmentally sensitive sites along the Far North Queensland coast. North Marine is managing all aspects of the project, from the recovery and removal of abandoned vessels to the safe disposal or recycling of materials.

Scope of Work

Each salvage operation requires detailed logistical planning and a flexible approach to suit varying site conditions. This includes the mobilisation of tug and barge assets, heavy equipment such as 40-tonne excavators, and experienced commercial dive teams when necessary. North Marine also manages all necessary permitting, including Marine Park access approvals, and works closely with local stakeholders, including Traditional Owners, where applicable. With a strong focus on minimising environmental impact, the project includes pollution mitigation measures, waste management, site rehabilitation, and daily coordination with the MSQ Contract Manager to ensure smooth and compliant delivery throughout all stages of the operation.
