Double Island Make Safe Clean Up – Cairns, Queensland
North Marine delivered the ‘Double Island Make Safe Clean Up’ project in two well-coordinated phases in May / June 2025. Operating in a remote and environmentally sensitive setting, our team successfully removed all identified derelict materials (including submerged pontoons, abandoned machinery and disused glamping structures). The project greatly enhanced site safety and environmental quality, highlighting North Marine’s capability to manage complex logistics and deliver reliable outcomes in challenging field conditions.
Pilot Boat Tow – Thursday Island to Cairns, Queensland
In late March / early April 2025, North Marine was contracted by Auriga to undertake the tow of the 14-metre mono-hull pilot vessel Dabai from Thursday Island to Cairns. This operation was essential in supporting Auriga’s ongoing marine operations in Far North Queensland, ensuring their continued capacity to deliver pilotage services in the region. The project was executed in a remote and logistically challenging environment, where experience, preparation, and precise coordination were key to its success.
Pilot Boats Vessel Relocation – Cairns to Weipa / Weipa to Cairns, Queensland
In March 2025, North Marine was contracted by Ports North to relocate two pilot boats between Cairns and Weipa, ensuring continued operational efficiency in the region. With efficient execution and clear communication, North Marine completed the relocations safely and on schedule, reinforcing its reputation for reliable marine transport solutions.
War on Wrecks Salvages – North Queensland
As part of Maritime Safety Queensland’s War on Wrecks initiative, North Marine is engaged in the recovery, removal, and disposal of derelict vessels across the Cairns region. These operations aim to improve navigational safety, protect sensitive marine environments, and reduce pollution risks by removing abandoned and deteriorating vessels from coastal waterways. North Marine’s role involves tailored salvage solutions for each site, including vessel recovery, environmentally responsible disposal, and site rehabilitation where needed, while ensuring full compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
Turtle Monitoring – Remote Islands in the Northern Parts of Australia
North Marine supported TSRA Rangers and Traditional Owners on a voyage aboard the Lady Ningaloo to remote islands in the northern parts of Australia.
Towed Camera Survey – Cairns to Brisbane, Queensland
North Marine supported CSIRO in conducting a Towed Camera Survey along the Great Barrier Reef between Cairns and Brisbane using the vessel Sea Horse.
Unknown Dive Object – Channel near Thursday Island, Queensland
In November 2024, North Marine was contracted by AMSA to investigate an unknown object resting on the seafloor at approximately 15m depth in the channel near Thursday Island.
Rubbish Removal ‘Endeavour Bay’ – Cairns, Queensland
North Marine, in collaboration with Pacific Marine Salvage, was contracted to remove and lawfully dispose of pollutants, harmful substances, and debris from the vessel ‘Endeavour Bay’ in Trinity Inlet, Cairns.
Coral Sea Marine Park Island Health Voyage – Coral Sea, Queensland
North Marine supported Parks Australia in conducting a 9-day Coral Sea Marine Park (CSMP) Island Health Assessment voyage in July 2024.
Cyclone ‘Jasper’ Recovery – Cairns and Far North Queensland
Cyclone ‘Jasper’, a severe tropical cyclone that struck Far North Queensland in December 2023, caused widespread damage across the Cairns region and several Cape communities. ‘Jasper’ brought destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding, leaving many areas in urgent need of support.
