Meet North Marine’s Management
Highly respected throughout the industry for their depth of knowledge are Managing Directors and co-owners, Ben Hales and Courtney Hansen.

Owner & Director – Ben Hales
Ben Hales is a seasoned business owner, manager, Vessel Master, Marine Engineer and diver with over twenty years of industry experience.
At North Marine, Ben oversees day-to-day project management and execution.
He’s well known for his technical engineering and acute problem-solving abilities. Adept at designing safe solutions to logistically challenging projects and growing organisational capability.
As the result of an extensive career both internationally and throughout Australia, Ben has invaluable first-hand knowledge. He has worked across a range of maritime industries, including the mining sector, commercial, tourism and superyacht industries. He understands the demands of work on the water and the support you require.
As Project Manager, Ben oversees the execution of North Marines operations.
Owner & Director – Courtney Hansen
Courtney Hansen is a Master IV Skipper, diver and manager, with thirteen years experience in the marine services industry and nine years in the commercial sector. Under the previous owner, Courtney was a key crew member, working in the business before becoming an owner herself. Her knowledge of all facets of the industry is second to none.
Courtney started her career in charter fishing and then as a dive boat Captain. Courtney was the first-ever permanent female Captain for Northern Australia’s largest freight shipping company. During her time there, Courtney was Master of a 50-meter, 1300-ton landing barge operating throughout the Eastern Seaboard, Torres Strait, Gulf of Carpentaria and Darwin.
In 2015 Courtney won the “Llyod List, Young Maritime Professional of the Year” award for achievements in the industry. In 2021 she was recognised as a finalist in the Cairns Chamber of Commerce Awards – “Emerging Leaders” division.
Courtney currently sits as a committee member on the Cairns Local Marine Advisory Committee (LMAC) for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. She is a member of the Regional Jobs Committee – an invitation-only position offered by the State Government and hosted by the Cairns Chamber of Commerce.
As Business Development Manager, Courtney will be most clients’ primary point of contact with North Marine.
Commercial Diving Supervisor – Ryan Kobelt
Heading the commercial dive division at North Marine is lead Commercial Dive Supervisor, Ryan Kobelt.
Ryan joined the North Marine family in 2015. An ADAS commercial diver and experienced Dive Supervisor, Ryan oversees commercial diving projects.
Ryan is a seasoned MED 1 and Master V Skipper.
Ryan’s extensive resume of dive projects is too long to list. Still, it includes fly-in-fly-out assignments for the gas and oil industries, overseeing major Government and corporate contracts and working on countless in-water infrastructure projects.
Website & Marketing – Lucy Davies
Lucy’s career spans the marine tourism and marketing industries.
Lucy spent her early career working for an international commodities shipping company in the UK. Upon emigrating to Australia, she worked for over ten years as a crew member aboard a liveaboard tourism vessel. Additionally, she created SEO content for a diverse range of tourism products and operators during this time.
Lucy is a Marine Engineer (MEDII), marine industry Trainer and Assessor and an experienced Dive Instructor. Before becoming a mother, Lucy owned a busy registered training organisation (RTO) – a Marine First Aid training business.
With North Marine, Lucy’s role is website management and administration.
