Meet North Marine’s Management
Highly respected throughout the industry for their depth of knowledge are Managing Directors and co-owners, Ben Hales and Courtney Hansen.

Owner & Director – Ben Hales
Ben has worked across the mining sector, commercial diving, tourism and superyacht industries.
As the result of a career both internationally and throughout Australia, Ben has extensive first-hand knowledge. He understands the demands of working on the water and the support your industry requires.
Ben Hales is an experienced Master four skipper, marine engineer and diver with industry experience spanning over twenty years.
From childhood, Ben worked in his family’s marine tourism business. As a young teenager, his work was constructing boat moorings and deckhand. He was a Skipper by the time he was 19 years old and Master of a 35-meter liveaboard at 23.
Before acquiring North Marine, Ben’s role was as operations manager for a large marine company overseeing a staff of 80+ crew.
As Project Manager, Ben oversees the coordination and execution of operations.
Owner & Director – Courtney Hansen
Courtney Hansen is a Master four skipper, diver and manager, with thirteen years experience in the marine services industry and nine years in the commercial sector. Under the previous owner, Courtney was a key crew member, working in the business before becoming an owner herself. Her knowledge of all facets of the industry is second to none.
Courtney started her career in charter fishing and then as a dive boat Captain. Courtney was the first-ever permanent female Captain, for Northern Australia’s largest freight shipping company. During her time there, Courtney was Master of a 50-meter, 1300-ton landing barge operating throughout the Eastern Seaboard, Torres Strait, Gulf of Carpentaria and Darwin.
In 2015 Courtney won the “Llyod List, Young Maritime Professional of the Year” award for achievements in the industry. In 2021 she was recognised as a finalist in the Cairns Chamber of Commerce Awards – “Emerging Leaders” division. Courtney currently sits as a committee member on the Cairns Local Marine Advisory Committee (LMAC).
As Business Development Manager, Courtney will be most clients primary point of contact.
Commercial Dive Supervisor – Ryan Kobelt
Heading the commercial dive division at North Marine is lead Commercial Dive Supervisor, Ryan Kobelt.
Ryan joined the North Marine family in 2015. An ADAS commercial diver and experienced Dive Supervisor, Ryan oversees commercial diving projects.
Ryan is a seasoned Master V Skipper and MED 1.
Ryan’s extensive resume of dive projects is too long to list. Still, it includes fly-in-fly-out assignments for the gas and oil industries, overseeing major Government and corporate contracts and working on countless in-water infrastructure projects.
Website & Marketing – Lucy Davies
Lucy’s career spans the marine tourism and SEO marketing industries.
Lucy spent her early career working for an international commodities shipping company in the UK. She worked for over ten years as crew aboard a liveaboard tourism vessel, upon emigrating to Australia. Additionally, she created SEO content for a diverse range of tourism products and operators during this time.
Lucy is a Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 (MEDIII), marine industry Trainer and Assessor and an experienced Dive Instructor. Before becoming a mother, Lucy owned a busy registered training organisation (RTO) – a Marine First Aid training business.
With North Marine, Lucy’s role is website management and administration.
